In Grindelwald for about $80 a night I get a room with a balcony and a direct view of the Eiger. Best deal I’ve had in Switzerland. Unfortunately, clouds are obscuring most of it, including the famous north face.

Good deals are hard to find these days in Switz – their currency is pretty strong compared to both the $ and the Euro. You’ve done well. Pascale and I enjoyed a week in the Wengen area – between Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen – a couple years ago. Inspirational hiking in the shadow of those iconic mountains! I remember the area well from my skiing days, too. It’s a great area for your intermezzo respite. Enjoy your break, if that’s still the plan – sorry we’re not joining you as earlier planned. Meanwhile, how ’bout some stats – km hiked, meters climbed, liters of blood lost, etc… We’re missing out on some of the crucial details!
